Year: 2026
Type: report
Abstract: The editors ofthe Calgary Working Papers in Linguistics (CWPL) are pleased to present the thirty-fourth volume of the journal, which is affiliated to the Division of Linguistics of the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures (SLLLC) at the University of Calgary. Before presenting further details on this publication, we would like to acknowledge that the University of Calgary, located in the heart of Southern Alberta, both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the peoples of Treaty 7, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprised of the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney First Nations). The city of Calgary is also home to the Me tis Nation of Alberta (including Nose Hill Me tis District 5 and Elbow Me tis District 6). CWPL publishes works on linguistics and related fields. It welcomes and encourages submissions from undergraduate and graduate student researchers affiliated with the University of Calgary. It has been published since 1975, and all the previous volumes can be found at https://hdl.handle.net/1880/100040. The works published in the 34th volume approach mainly phonological aspects of Michif, Turkish and Canadian English, and also lexical variation in Canadian and American English. Note that works submitted to CWPL are reviewed and edited by two members of the editorial board. The papers represent work in progress and should not be considered final or definitive articles, nor peer-reviewed publications. In line with this, publication in CWPL does not preclude the submission of additional revisions of the same paper to another journal or publication. Our editorial board is composed of graduate students of the MA and PhD programs in the Division of Linguistics, and we would like to acknowledge the time and effort invested by them in editing this volume. The editorial board acknowledges the support of the advisors and supervisors of our editors and contributors, and of the University of Calgary through the institutional repository, PRISM. Finally, we also express our gratitude to the authors of papers in this volume. This enables the continuation of CWPL as a longstanding tradition at the University of Calgary and maintains the high standards within our publication.
