The Ethical Renewal of Environmental Thought: Responsibility, Justice, and Ecological Coexistence in the Age of Climate Crisis
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: : This article re-examines environmental thought in the age of climate crisis through the ethical ideas of responsibility, justice, and ecological coexistence. It contends that environmental ethics must move beyond a narrow focus on conservation and embrace a broader moral framework attentive to interdependence, vulnerability, and the claims of future generations. Aldo Leopold’s depiction of the human as a member of the biotic community provides an important foundation, yet current ecological conditions demand that this vision be renewed through a more sustained engagement with questions of justice and modes of coexistence. The article therefore advances ethical renewal as a necessary and timely development of environmental thought in the climate age.
