Abstract: Radon (²²²Rn) is a naturally occurring radioactive gas generated in the ²³⁸U decay series through the decay of ²²⁶Ra and can accumulate in groundwater through waterrock interactions. The present study evaluates the radiological significance of radon and radium in groundwater used for drinking purposes in the Sathyamangala Industrial Area of Tumakuru, Karnataka, India. The study area is underlain by hornblende-biotite gneiss, a geological formation capable of contributing naturally occurring radionuclides to groundwater.Groundwater was collected from selected sources and analysed for ²²²Rn using the emanometric technique coupled with a Lucas scintillation cell. The activity concentration of ²²⁶Ra and major physicochemical parameters were also evaluated. The measured ²²²Rn concentration at Sathyamangala was 5.61 ± 1 Bq L⁻¹, while the corresponding ²²⁶Ra activity was 42 ± 0.7 Bq L⁻¹.The measured chloride, fluoride, nitrate and sulphate concentrations were 162, 2.79, 38 and 198 mg L⁻¹, respectively, while pH, total dissolved solids and electrical conductivity were 7.13, 613 mg L⁻¹ and 609 μS cm⁻¹, respectively.Assessment of Radon ( 222 Rn) Concentration and Radiological Exposure from Drinking Water in Sathyamangala Industrial Area, Tumakuru, Karnataka, India https://iaeme.com/Home/journal/RJP 8 editor
