Prostatic Artery Embolization with Cyanoacrylate Glue for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: A Systematic Review and Single-arm Meta-analysis of Short-term Outcomes
Year: 2026
Type: review
Study designs: Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis
Abstract: This systematic review and single-arm meta-analysis synthesized evidence on the safety and efficacy of prostatic artery embolization with cyanoacrylate glue for benign prostatic hyperplasia. PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were systematically searched, and eight studies comprising 723 patients were included. Clinically meaningful improvements were observed in International Prostate Symptom Score (−10.44), prostate volume (−25.56 mL), and International Prostate Symptom Score–Quality of Life (−2.52). Subgroup analyses of follow-up up to 6 months showed no significant differences compared with longer follow-up. Adverse events occurred in 13% of patients. Mean fluoroscopy time was 26.64 minutes, and mean radiation exposure was 105.82 Gy·cm2. Overall, glue may be safe and effective in the short term, with apparently similar clinical outcomes and potential technical advantages compared to particles, as suggested by indirect comparison; however, long-term and high-quality evidence remains limited.
