Auditing the received argument on Old Chinese yinsheng codas
Year: 2026
Type: other
Abstract: Pre-registered quantitative audit of the received argument for Old Chinese yinsheng (陰聲) codas. The study tests whether the tonal asymmetry of yin–ru (陰入) rhyme contacts in the Shijing survives control for tone-matching in rhyming, whether the controlled profile conforms to H1 (Li Fang-kuei 1971: voiced stop codas) or H2 (Baxter & Sagart 2014: open syllables with post-codas *-ʔ, *-s), and what the minimum detectable effect of the rhyme and xiesheng (諧聲) data is. Decision rules, fixed constants (δ = log 2, ε = log 1.25, α = 0.05), null model, and data sources are frozen in the attached protocol (Korean, with English summary) before any data are examined. Principal investigator: Jiyoung Lee, Yonsei University. Data: Shijing Rhyme Browser (Baxter 1992 judgments), Wang Li 1980 Shijing yundu (manual entry), Baxter–Sagart 2014 reconstruction, Zhengzhang 2003 (via ytenx), Li Fang-kuei 1971 (rhyme-group-to-coda mapping).
