Long-term project observations for project L147 semester 2026APRS_24
Year: 2026
Type: dataset
Abstract: We propose to carry out a deep Galactic Bulge pulsar survey (GBps), covering the core of the Bulge region using the new cryoPAF system on Murriyang, the Parkes radio telescope. Such a deep survey is expected to discover a population of millisecond pulsars in the Galactic Bulge and reveal their distribution and gamma-ray emissions. With these, we will lead pioneering studies on the origin of gamma-ray emission in the Galactic Bulge, a longstanding mystery in modern astronomy. The outcome of this project will significantly advance our knowledge of the formation and evolution of millisecond pulsars in the Galactic Bulge, the origin and properties of high-energy emissions, and the nature of dark matter annihilation in the Galactic Centre. A total of 200 observations with the cryoPAF is required to cover a 400 square degree region (|gl|<10 deg, |gb|<10 deg). The survey is expected to be carried out over four semesters, from April 2026 to October 2027.
