In-situ SAXS for size and crystallinity tracking during micelle-driven crystallization of nanoCOFs

Year: 2026
Type: dataset
Abstract: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are crystalline polymers that have been receiving much attention in several fields, such as adsorption, sensing, catalysis, and drug delivery. In the latter, it remains a great challenge to synthesize COFs of a controllable size and morphology: ideally between 30-200 nm and of a pseudo-spherical shape, to optimize blood circulation without clearance nor embolization, and enhance cargo loading. In this proposal, we aim to track in-situ micelle-based synthesis in a capillary for two types of COFs, imine-based, and azo-based, in order to reveal crucial differences in the crystallization mechanisms arising from the different covalent bonds that are being formed. As a result, deeper understanding on the simultaneous micelle evolution and crystal nucleation and growth in differently-bonded COFs materials will allow synthesis optimization to control the final particle size.
