Towards a Resilient Future: Embedding Human Rights into Health Strategy

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This study explores the critical intersection between the human right to water and the resilience of public health systems, particularly in marginalized and resource-poor communities. Access to clean water and sanitation is not merely a human rights issue but a foundational pillar of public health security. Ensuring equitable water access is essential for preventing health crises, controlling disease outbreaks, safeguarding food security, and promoting maternal and child health. However, systemic inequities continue to exacerbate disparities in water access, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations during public health emergencies. This research investigates how integrating the human right to water into public health strategies can enhance crisis preparedness and resilience, particularly for communities lacking robust infrastructure. By analyzing the role of water justice in mitigating public health risks, this study highlights the necessity of incorporating equity-driven policies into health strategies. The paper identifies key indicators and issues that link water accessibility to health resilience, offering a framework for equitable resource distribution and community-centered crisis response. Ultimately, this research advocates for a paradigm shift in public health preparedness—one that recognizes access to water as a core determinant of health justice and a fundamental strategy for building resilient communities in the face of global health threats.
