Abstract: Recently, the world has gradually drifted toward Industry 5.0, yet the acceptability level of Industry 4.0 is deemed low, especially in Nigeria. Hence, there are calls to prepare graduates for Industry 4.0. in the construction industry. For proper preparation, however, it is expedient to investigate the awareness level of Industry 4.0 among students and lecturers. This paper examines the differences in awareness of Industry 4.0 among students and lecturers in Building programmes at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Nigeria to prepare a sustainable Industry 4.0 curriculum. Dwelling on the pragmatic research philosophy and adopting the positivist research paradigm, the study employed a close-ended questionnaire to elicit information on the awareness of Industry 4.0 among the participants. A hypothesis was thus postulated on the significant difference in the awareness level of Industry 4.0 among students and lecturers. The hypothesis was tested using the Mann-Whitney test. The results show that the level of awareness of Industry 4.0 among students and lecturers is moderate. However, students recorded a low level of awareness on the majority of Industry 4.0 components compared to their lecturers and there was no significant difference in their awareness level. The study thus concluded that the awareness of Industry 4.0 is moderate among students and lecturers. Stakeholders in Nigerian educational sector can use the findings in this study as a guide in creating an effective curriculum that will meet SDG 9 for building programmes in higher institutions. Data were collected from lecturers and students of one higher education institution, future studies should consider multiple higher education institutions to have a wider view of respondents on Industry 4.0. The study contributes to knowledge by highlighting the industry 4.0 technologies with low awareness levels for proper inclusion in the curriculum design and the importance of awareness levels in designing a sustainable innovative curriculum for students in higher institutions of learning
