Analysis of Challenges Faced in Migrating Legacy Software to Cloud

Abstract: The problem of legacy software is never ending. Handling legacy software is a big challenge now a days. Even though cloud computing technology is emerging like a boom, the research on migration of legacy software to cloud is still in early stages of maturity, but is advancing. Migration of legacy software to cloud will reduce operational cost, will boost the performance in terms of security, scalability, etc. Discarding a legacy system is sometimes not feasible due to its importance in business. This paper aims at identifying various challenging activities in migrating legacy software onto cloud platform using various reengineering processes. Various cloud service models, deployment models are discussed here. Reasons to retain legacy systems, problems faced and how cloud improves the legacy application system are also discussed. Challenges faced during migration of legacy system to cloud, how various remedial steps can be taken, new issues aroused with migration are the major discussions in this paper. Various literatures have been studied to present a set of common perception on migration of legacy software on to cloud. The findings of this study constitute a practical guide that promotes an independent mechanism of any specific migration scenario onto cloud platform.
