Abstract: This population-based international cross-sectional study included 1200 participants without clinical manifestations of atherosclerosis from the Russian and French populations. To assess the susceptibility to the development of atherosclerosis, an ultrasonic evaluation of common carotid arteries was used. It has been analyzed the variability of carotid intima-medial thickness (cIMT) in two samples of participants with an increased risk of atherosclerotic diseases from Paris and Moscow. The role of traditional risk factors such as age, body mass index, lipid profile, in the formation of increase of cIMT has been studied. The most expressed predictive ability in susceptibility to atherosclerosis was the age and the level of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL).
