Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The implementation of mandatory halal certification for food and beverage products for micro and small enterprises (MSEs) on October 18, 2026, requires their products to be halal certified. However, limited knowledge about halal products and the halal certification process remains a major challenge. Therefore, education and assistance on halal product certification were conducted for small and medium enterprise (SME) owners in Tondo Village, Mantikulore District, Palu City, Central Sulawesi. The purpose of this activity was to improve understanding of halal products and the procedure for applying for “self-declare” halal certification. This program focused on education about halal and non-halal concepts, halal raw materials, and halal certification procedures. The stages of this activity included socialization of halal-certified SME products, assistance in preparing the Halal Assurance System (SJH) manual, educational support and dissemination of halal policies, halal certification registration, as well as verification and validation processes. The socialization activity was carried out by delivering materials about halal products, the importance of halal certification, its procedures, and its benefits. Assistance in completing the SJH documents was provided to SMEs that already had a Business Identification Number (NIB). Based on the data obtained during this activity, several business owners still did not have an NIB. Therefore, assistance was also provided for NIB registration, because without an NIB they did not meet the requirements to apply for halal certification. The benefit of halal product certification is that it increases consumer trust in the products, which can ultimately improve sales turnover.
