Abstract: Making medicines is super important for global health, but the traditional methods can be resource-intensive and generate significant waste, impacting the environment. Green Chemistry offers a transformative approach, focusing on designing chemical processes that are safer and more sustainable from the outset. The twelve principles are a common way to communicate the idea of "green chemistry," which was initially developed by Paul Anastas and John Warner. This literature provides a simple yet comprehensive overview of Green Chemistry's core principles, its critical relevance to the Indian pharmaceutical industry – a major global player – and explores current applications, methods for measuring progress, key challenges, and the promising future landscape for greener medicine production in India.
