Effect of manure and bio-pesticide on field pea under organic management in New Alluvial Zone of West Bengal
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: A field experiment was conducted to find out the effect of different organic manures and bio-pesticides on growth, disease incidence, and yield of field pea (Pisum sativum L., cv. IPFD 10-12) during rabi season of 2018–19 and 2019–20 at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal. Among organic manures, cow dung manure @ 20 kg N/ha (2.4 t/ha) recorded the highest plant height (49.2 cm), dry matter yield (488.2 g/m2) at harvest, and number of root nodules/plant (40.9) at 60 DAS, compared to farm yard manure (2.1 t/ha @20 kg N/ha) and vermicompost (1.1 t/ha @20 kg N/ha). However, application of vermicompost as basal resulted in maximum pods/plant (20.9), seeds/pod (7.1) and grain yield (797 kg/ha), outperforming FYM (748 kg/ha) and cow dung manure (737 kg/ha). Downy mildew incidence was notably higher in plants grown in untreated control plots (score 3.0), whereas foliar spray of bio-pesticides such as Neemastra (score 2.3) and Dashaparni (score 2.2) at regular intervals significantly reduced disease infestation. Above all, integrated use of vermicompost and bio-pesticides could enhance the productivity and provide a sustainable approach for disease management of field pea in the New Alluvial Zone of West Bengal.
