Zheyinghong 1: A New Cherry Tomato Cultivar Adapted to Protected Cultivation Systems

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: To meet the demand for early-maturing, high-quality cherry tomato cultivars for protected cultivation, Zheyinghong 1 is a new cherry tomato (Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme) cultivar developed at the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences through pedigree selection from 2013 to 2023. It was selected from the cross RY16-11-22-32-42-42-53-51-61 × CH09-029F2-03-2-1P-2-1-30-3 for earliness, fruit uniformity, yield, fruit quality, and disease response. In greenhouse trials at three locations during the 2020–21 production season, ‘Zheyinghong 1’ produced a total yield of 6.50 ± 0.15 kg·m−2, which was 5.7% higher than that of ‘Zheyingfen 1’ (6.15 ± 0.05 kg·m−2; P < 0.05), and a marketable yield of 6.43 ± 0.14 kg·m−2, which was 10.9% higher than that of the control (5.80 ± 0.07 kg·m−2; P < 0.05). Fruits are bright red, round, and uniform, with total soluble solids of 6.91 ± 0.26 g·100 g−1 and high lycopene and ascorbic acid contents. A field evaluation showed resistance to leaf mold, tobacco mosaic virus, cucumber mosaic virus, gray leaf spot, and root-knot nematode. This cultivar is suitable for spring and fall–winter greenhouse production in China.
