Multidimensional Wound Healing Outcomes in Chronic and Complex Wounds: A Real‐World Case Series With a Thermoreversible Wound Gel

Abstract: Chronic and complex wounds frequently exhibit delayed healing associated with persistent inflammation, microbial burden and biofilm formation. This prospective observational case series describes wound-healing outcomes associated with adjunctive use of a thermo-reversible antimicrobial wound gel (TRG) in 17 adult patients with chronic wounds treated in an outpatient setting. A total of 28 wounds were analysed over up to 12 weeks using clinically relevant endpoints including percentage area reduction (PAR), wound bed tissue composition, exudate level, tissue oxygenation and patient-reported pain. Mean PAR was 43.9% at the wound level and 42.7% at the patient level. The proportion of wounds demonstrating epithelial tissue increased from 25.0% to 68.8%, while necrotic tissue decreased from 25.0% to 12.5%. Low exudate increased from 41.2% at baseline to 64.7% at final assessment. Mean pain scores decreased from 4.76 to 2.18 (p = 0.0125). In patients with available tissue oxygenation data, change in oxygenation was positively correlated with PAR (p = 0.011). These findings suggest that adjunctive use of the TRG was associated with improvement across multiple clinical outcomes in a real-world population of patients with chronic and complex wounds and support further evaluation in controlled studies.
