Neural mechanisms controlling food intake and body weight after bariatric surgery
Description: PUBLIC HEALTH RELEVANCE: Bariatric surgery is currently the most effective treatment of obesity and its associated health problems such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and sleep disturbances. This proposal investigates neural mechanisms responsible for the surgery-induced reduction in appetite and body weight, so that new pharmacological and behavioral treatments can be developed without the need for surgery.
