Abstract: The author takes us on a journey along with the main North American analysts concerned with the idea of community. He takes a look at liberals and communitarians, and the clashes between both. After considering the main points of each side, he then goes on to a deeper look at pragmatists. His paper offers us a general view of North American thinking regarding the characteristics, creation and development of democratic communities.
