Executive environmental background, green technology innovation and green transformation of heavily polluting enterprises

Abstract: Based on the sample data of listed companies of heavy polluters in Shanghai and Shenzhen A-shares from 2014-2023, the impact of executives' environmental protection background on corporate green transformation and the heterogeneity of the performance of different types of enterprises are empirically examined and deeply analyzed. The research results show that the appointment of executives with environmental background has a significant role in promoting the green transformation of enterprises, and shows differences in different types of enterprises. Based on the conclusions of the study, the establishment of a special fund for green technology innovation, the recruitment and training of executives with environmental background, and the establishment of an internal environmental incentive mechanism are proposed as corresponding countermeasures.
