Shaping Corporate Responsibility in Latin America to Address the Challenges of Climate Change and the Energy Transition
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The climate emergency in the Americas requires urgent action by states and corporations to address the negative consequences of climate change on human rights. This article focuses on the corporate responsibility to respect human rights and the environment in the context of the climate emergency and the energy transition in Latin America through a critical and qualitative analysis of the implementation of the standards of the Inter-American Human Rights System. These seek to ensure, through state action, an enabling environment in which corporations take into account their climate impacts as part of their responsibility to respect human rights and, at the same time, prevent and remedy the adverse consequences of their energy transition commitments, plans, and projects on human rights and the environment.
