Abstract: In an organizational context increasingly driven by data and the need for informed decision-making, the development of knowledge representation instruments that prioritize the semantic structuring of information has become strategic. This article aimed to identify and systematize the theoretical and methodological requirements present in Information Science literature to support the construction of faceted instruments applicable in corporate environments. Based on a narrative literature review, five representative proposals were analyzed (Barbosa 1972; Piedade 1983; Campos 2001; Lima 2004; Oliveira 2018), allowing for the formulation of a set of nine methodological requirements, with a particular focus on the structuring elements of faceted classification. The results indicate the existence of a common methodological core among the authors, in addition to important variations in terms of purpose, logical structure, and adaptation to digital environments. The proposed systematization provides a theoretical and practical foundation that can guide researchers and professionals in developing more flexible, reusable, and adaptable classification instruments for different knowledge domains.
