A Study on Impact of E-Commerce on Retail Shop in Poladpur Taluka
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The rapid growth of e-commerce has reshaped the global retail industry, significantly influencing consumer behaviour, sales strategies, and operational frameworks. This study examines the impact of e-commerce on physical retail shops in Poladpur by investigating how online shopping affects profitability, pricing patterns, and customer preferences. With an increasing shift toward online platforms due to convenience, product variety, and competitive pricing, traditional brick- and-mortar stores face reduced foot traffic and declining sales. This research explores the challenges faced by offline retailers and the strategic adaptations undertaken to maintain competitiveness. Through primary data collected via surveys and secondary research from published literature, the findings indicate that the majority of retailers report a decline in profit margins and turnover due to the rise of e-commerce. However, those who adopt hybrid models integrating both online and offline channels show improved customer retention and business sustainability. This paper provides actionable recommendations for conventional retailers to navigate the evolving digital landscape while maintaining their operational viability.
