Is Marriage For Love? Exploring Western Heterosexual Wedding Media And Contemporary Consumer Culture

Year: 2025
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Influencer weddings on social media platforms like Instagram look more and more luxurious, showing through an “abundance of branded goods“ (Winch and Webster 2012), as I observed as well when scrolling through posted wedding content. This phenomenon seems to be something specific to our digital age and the age of social media, as wedding history shows highly contrary results. With society becoming more focused on image than authenticity due to social media, it is essential to remember that reality is individual and what the inner workings of such trends are. It is relevant research to human societal development, which is why I will delve deep into this contemporary issue.
