Becoming the Workplace Change (BeWorC): a model for intervention built on hybridisation of the change Laboratory and activity-centered ergonomics
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study introduces the BeWorC model, a hybrid approach designed for healthcare settings that combine Change Laboratory (CL) and Activity-Centered Ergonomics (ACE) elements to workplace intervention. The model emerged from interventions in hospitals in Brazil and France that initially followed the CL method, but in practice, challenges required incorporating ACE tools and principles. This paper reflects on the researchers’ expansive learning, derived from five round table discussions analysing the adaptation of these methods. By emphasising worker involvement, contextual analysis, and collaborative negotiation, the BeWorC model provides actionable steps to empower workers and decision-makers to redesign and improve work environments. Future studies will further explore its effectiveness in fostering sustainable workplace transformation.
