Workforce–industry–academia convergence through the integration of professional courses into academic curricula
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The academic policy on the integration of professional training courses into the curriculum establishes a strategic approach to embed industry-relevant learning within academic programs. This ensures that all students have structured opportunities to develop practical skills during their academic studies. We propose a policy to integrate professional training courses into academic curricula. This not only empowers students’ dynamic learning but also bridges the gap between professional practices and dedicated learning. Moreover, it will foster innovation and meaningful contributions through the concept of graduate workforce readiness for industries. The proposed model represents a paradigm shift, particularly in the era of ubiquitous proliferation of large language models, which introduce cognitive offloading and metacognitive laziness in academia. Therefore, professional training and adaptive competencies of the graduates should be properly assessed. We incorporated cognitive participation and the skill level of the graduates into the academic transcripts. The certified transcripts have been validated by relevant industries and recognized by higher education accreditation bodies. This also supports the mission of the university by ensuring a holistic and productive curriculum through collaboration with relevant industry partners. Hence, our proposed policy has been developed to stimulate industries through an agile graduate workforce.
