Data collection and analysis for neurodevelopmental disorders: a single-case study and tutorial for clinicians and educators

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: It is generally acknowledged that optimizing teaching and learning is best accomplished with real-time data and rapid analysis and feedback. This is perhaps especially true for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders whose highly individualized learning profiles make standardized approaches insufficient. However, for the vast majority of such individuals, practical limitations limit the accomplishment of this ideal. Here, we present a fully implemented approach to data-driven interventions, developed and tested in a home-based, full-time hybrid clinical-educational program for an individual with autism (level 3). The system encourages real-time data recording with minimum interference with ongoing activities, and a data analysis and reporting pipeline grounded on freely available software that does not require extensive statistical knowledge. This system could potentially be a base for others to build on and modify for specific situations and needs.
