Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The article examines the phenomenon of e-commerce as a structural factor that has a restraining effect on inflationary processes. Based on the systematization of empirical studies by international organizations, central banks and academic institutions, the channels of the impact of online trading on pricing are analyzed. There are three main mechanisms: reducing transaction costs, increasing price competition in the context of digital transparency, and increasing pricing flexibility. Particular attention is paid to the contradictory nature of algorithmic pricing, which, under certain conditions, may generate risks of implicit coordination. The article examines Russian practices demonstrating a significant lag in the growth of prices on marketplaces from official inflation. The article is intended for economists, researchers in the field of digital economy and specialists in monetary policy.
