Abstract: The problem in this research is how the ability to write literary reviews is among class VIIIA students of SMP Negeri 5 Kupang Tengah. The purpose of this research is to describe the ability to write literary reviews among class VIII students of SMP Negeri 5 Kupang Tengah in the 2025/2026 Academic Year. The benefits of this research are expected to add to the scientific study in Indonesian language learning, particularly regarding the learning of writing literary reviews with a critical literacy approach. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection technique was carried out through a short story analysis test assessed based on aspects of short story structure. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques by calculating the average score and the percentage of student learning completeness. The results of this research show that the level of ability to write literary reviews among class VIIIA students of SMP Negeri 5 Kupang Tengah is in the less capable category. This can be seen from the class average score of 68.77 and the number of students who met the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) of 75 was 6 students with a percentage of 18%, while the number of students who did not meet the criteria was 12 students with a percentage of 82%. This incompleteness is due to low understanding of the material, lack of concentration in learning, and less active participation.
