Type: article
Abstract: Producing persuasive speech texts requires students to arrange ideas into an opening, body, and closing, whereas earlier studies have examined instructional models or media rather than mapping the structure of students' texts. This study examines the attainment of persuasive speech text structure among eighth-grade students in classes VIII E and VIII H at SMP Negeri 5 Purwokerto in 2025/2026 academic year. A quantitative descriptive method was applied. Data consisted of 61 persuasive speech scripts collected through document study and assessed by the researcher using a four-point analytic rubric. Content validity (Aiken's V, mean 0.97) and inter-rater reliability on 30 trial scripts (single-measures ICC = 0.776, good category) were satisfactory. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Structural ability was classified as adequate, with a mean of 71.45; 72.13% of students were in this category. The body achieved the highest score (74.18), while the closing obtained the lowest (67.21). Missing elements involved thanks in the opening, relevant data in the body, and the conclusion in the closing. Students have acquired the speech framework, but structural completeness remains uneven.
