Why Marketing Fails: Understanding the Gap Between Brand Communication and Consumer Purchase
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This paper examines why marketing strategies sometimes fail to convert brand communication into actual consumer purchases. It explores the gap between what businesses communicate and what consumers understand, perceive, trust, and ultimately choose to buy. The study discusses key factors contributing to marketing failure, including inadequate customer understanding, weak value propositions, ineffective brand positioning, consumer psychology, lack of trust, pricing challenges, distribution issues, and poor performance measurement. Using a qualitative secondary-research approach, the paper examines marketing concepts and consumer behaviour to understand why marketing activities do not always produce the expected business outcomes. The paper aims to provide a broader understanding of marketing effectiveness and highlight the importance of aligning brand communication with consumer expectations and purchasing behaviour.
